“An Old-New Punitive Philosophy!” – Report by the “No Statute of Limitations” Campaign on Detention Conditions in 2024
The “No Statute of Limitations – Torture Map” campaign has released its report on detention conditions during 2024, as part of its ongoing efforts to shed light on the state of detention facilities in Egypt.
The report documents major violations that took place over the past year, affecting prisoners and their families, including solitary confinement, forced transfers – relocating prisoners to faraway prisons as a punitive measure – and methods of resistance employed by detainees.
The report also includes a record of deaths inside detention facilities, including prisons, police stations, and security establishments, amounting to 50 documented cases.
